Choosing Shirt Fabric for Houston Heat

Fabric choice affects how a shirt feels and how the artwork can be applied. For Houston outdoor events, daily crew shirts or a brand release, compare the actual garment rather than choosing only by color or price.

Share an approximate quantity and your needed date. Artwork can be uploaded with your request.

Separate fiber content from garment performance

Cotton, polyester and blends describe fiber content, but fabric weight, knit, fit and finishing also affect comfort. Two shirts with similar fiber percentages can feel different. Review the selected manufacturer’s specifications and consider a sample when fit and feel matter.

Avoid treating every polyester shirt as a tested moisture-management garment. If performance features are important for staff or an outdoor event, ask for the actual model information. A product description should support the specific feature being requested.

Match the print to the garment

DTF is used for full-color graphics on a range of compatible garments, but the exact fabric, coating, dye and heat sensitivity still need review. Identify the model before approving the artwork and method.

Conventional dye sublimation is different: it requires a suitable substrate, typically compatible light polyester for apparel or purpose-made/coated hard goods. It does not automatically replace DTF for a dark cotton shirt. Review the selected product with the printer.

Consider the graphic’s coverage and location

A large solid graphic covers more surface than a small chest logo. If comfort is a priority, discuss the artwork size, placement and intended use together. You may decide that a smaller design or a different layout suits a crew shirt better.

Ask how the print will look on the chosen garment color. A white mockup background is not a garment specification, and changing the shirt after artwork approval can change the visual result.

Build a useful comparison before ordering

Request quotes using the same quantities, sizes and print locations for each garment option. Compare the full order cost and actual specifications; a lower blank cost alone does not answer whether the finished shirt meets your needs.

Include youth or extended sizes, any required workwear characteristics and your in-hand date. Follow the care instructions supplied for the selected garment and decoration, rather than using a universal washing or pressing recipe.

Check the source specifications

For technical background, Epson’s sublimation overview and SanMar’s dye-sublimation guide explain substrate considerations. Those references do not establish compatibility for an unreviewed product.
